In the "how to light a fire" episode, what's that sharp object he used again to cut the pieces of wood? Did he say a flint or lint? (you could find these rocks under fallen trees??)

don't know how much help this method of lighting a fire would be when you're hiking out in the desert...

all you've got are juniper treas, joshua trees, yucca bushes, cacti, tumbleweed lizards and s-s-s-ssssnakes!

in the Country Tracks episode # 5 (first part) that's an interesting idea of how to cook an omelet when you're primitive camping.

i'll have to keep that in mind next time around

although i don't know how many of us would actually put it in our mouths after it settling in the ground like that for a while

Yes, that's f-f-f-fffflint And the bit about the falling trees I found that strange too. Perhaps it's to do with the way these rocks are formed (diagenesis?).

It is a lot easier to light a fire in the desert due to the dry conditions. Of course, it all depends on what you find or have at hand. One very useful tool for this purpose is a converging lens or glass (concave mirror, magnifying glass etc).

As for the omelette, you would if you had to! In survival situations beggars can't be choosers!
