Yesterday, he appeared via video link before Stroud Magistrates.
The 43-year-old spoke only to confirm his name and address during the hearing. He watched proceedings from Gloucester prison.
Eight charges were read out. Algerian-born Daifallah, 43, faces four charges of contamination of or interfering with goods on May 14 and May 16, as well as three counts of criminal damage on the same dates and one public order offence on May 14.
Tesco in Quedgeley and Morrison's in Abbeymead were brought to a standstill when the substance was discovered.
Daifallah also faces charges relating to similar incidents at the Waterstone's bookshop in Cirencester and the Air Balloon pub in Birdlip.
Graham Dono, prosecuting, said the cost of the incidents was hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Bail was refused and Daifallah was remanded in custody until June 25.
