April 2, 2008 -- The World Food Programme (WFP) will provide 125,000 Sahrawi refugees in the Tindouf camps with food assistance worth $32.5 million, Algerian press reported. An agreement for the aid was signed on Tuesday (April 1st) in Algiers between Algeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary General Madjid Bougerra and WFP representative in Algeria Richard Dalrymple.
Also present at the signature ceremony was the UN's visiting Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees Craig Johnstone, who said the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, in collaboration with the Algerian Red Crescent, is conducting a needs' assessment before presenting an appeal for aid from donor countries.
