July 16, 2007 -- A team of 126 Cuban doctors has arrived here to offer much needed medical services in Algeria's far-flung regions, which lack sufficient basic health facilities, local press reported Monday.

The Cuban doctors, who arrived in the Algerian capital Sunday, are in the country to provide health assistance in the framework of a cooperation agreement signed between the countries' ministries of health, according to the Algerian daily La Tribune.

They will be deployed in Algeria's southern and Haut Plateau districts, where they are expected to provide support services for mother and child health program.

The Cuban doctors are notably specialized in the fields of pediatrics, ophthalmology, gyneco-obstetrics, anaesthesia and general surgery.
