June 27, 2007 -- At least 10 people were injured in a 4.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked Bejaia province (east of Algiers) on Wednesday.
The 'quake struck at 2:22 a.m with an epicentre at 25km southeast of Bejaia, the Algerian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.
People were panicked and spent the night outside.
According to local sources, a number of students threw themselves to the floor at their residences when the earthquake hit the region. Other students fell down in their rooms.
Civil Protection services immediately intervened to take the injured students to hospital.
No other damages were recorded.
